Equally renowned as a classical violinist and a performer of traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, Hemsing is uniquely placed to bring the work to life. As far as is known, Attmed is the first concerto to feature both violin and Hardanger fiddle as equal solo instruments. Throughout the piece, Hemsing moves between the two, creating what Matre describes as “two concertos existing side by side” — reflected in the title Attmed (“alongside”).

The concerto unfolds in a single continuous movement. While the violin writing draws on a lyrical, romantic tradition, the Hardanger fiddle sections are partly inspired by traditional Norwegian fiddle music.
